Educator and candidate for M.S.Ed, MDCPS
Alexa Guy is a native and current resident of West Palm Beach, Florida. She is a proud alumna of Florida Agricultural and Mechanical University, where her love for public service began. Alexa will be a Fall 2020 graduate of The University of Miami with her Masters of Science in Education and Social Change. She currently serves as a fourth grade educator in Miami-Dade County. Alexa believes that equity begins with systemic change and has committed herself to continually serving underserved students and families, with a focus to bridge the gap between academics and mental health- Social Emotional Learning. Having worked in education for five years and witnessing the effects of legislation on education policy, Alexa decided to currently become a United Teachers of Dade and American Federation of Teachers Legislative policy fellow, where she is currently focusing her research on the inequities of our educational system. Alexa has witnessed first hand, day to day the struggles of some of our most vulnerable communities which has led her towards her efforts and work as a Social and Emotional Learning Specialist. She plans to continue to make progressive steps towards the social and emotional well-being of students and families as well as continue her inevitable dedication to systemic educational change. Additional causes that Alexa is passionate about are community impact and increased civic engagement. In her free time, she enjoys traveling, spending time with family and friends and painting.
