Angelia Duran is a proud Latina who’s family immigrated to Rhode Island from Dominican Republic over 30 years ago. She was born and raised in South Providence. She attributes her leadership skills to her strong-willed mother who raised her and her two siblings against all odds. She has a beautiful ten year old daughter, Jaslene, and a life partner, Fredo. Angelia always had the dream of having a career where she could help others. She is passionate about creating programs and systems that provide equitable access to resources. She graduated cum laude with her bachelor’s degree in social work at Rhode Island College (RIC) in 2014 where she also obtained her graduate degree in social work, with a focus on macro concentration social work and nonprofit leadership, in 2019. She is the 2019 recipient of the National Association of Social Worker’s Promising Practitioner in Macro Concentration Award for the Rhode Island Chapter. Currently, Angelia is the Director of Enrollment, Guidance and Graduate Support at Sophia Academy. She dedicates her time working towards creating programs that are equitable, just and open up amazing opportunities to empower her students. She currently serves as Vice Chair on the board of Montessori Community School of Rhode Island. She believes that every child should have access to quality early childhood education. In her free time, she loves dancing bachata and spending quality time with family and friends.
