ESL Instructor and Writing Tutor, Cincinnati State Technical and Community College
Daniel Zimmer has been teaching English as a Second Language (ESL) in community and academic settings since 2012. He holds an M.Ed. in Literacy and Second Language Studies (Adult TESOL) from the University of Cincinnati, and previously earned a B.A. in Creative Writing from Ohio University, with a French minor. Currently, he is an ESL instructor and writing tutor at Cincinnati State Technical and Community College. Before the COVID pandemic, Daniel was also teaching community ESL classes for Latinx and indigenous Guatemalan residents of Cincinnati’s East Price Hill neighborhood. Language has long been a passion of Daniel’s. He is conversant in French, Spanish, and Dutch, and is currently studying American Sign Language at Cincinnati State. He is especially interested in how matters of digital literacy affect language learners. Outside of language education, music is one of Daniel’s greatest joys. He has been playing piano and other instruments for over 20 years and has written and performed a good deal of solo material. In recent years, he has been a musical director with Improv Cincinnati and other improv comedy groups in the area. Daniel enjoys figure drawing and has been a regular attendee of life drawing sessions at Manifest Drawing Center in East Walnut Hills. He has also been known to be a little obsessed with playing chess from time to time. Daniel lives in Clifton with his partner Suzi and their two very special cats.
