Academic Specialist, Palm Beach County Schools
Dr. Dominic Grasso is both an instructional specialist for the School District of Palm Beach County as well as an adjunct professor for Florida Atlantic University. Dr. Grasso's role with the school district focuses on academics and literacy, with a focus on equity, diversity, and inclusion. In addition, Dr. Grasso teaches a variety of education courses for Florida Atlantic University also focusing on diversity, equity, and inclusion. Dr. Grasso is a lifelong lover of education, earning his bachelor's, master's, and doctorate degrees at Florida Atlantic University. During his Ph.D. studies, Dr. Grasso specialized in multicultural education and took a variety of courses focusing on critical theory, queer theory, and social justice issues in education. As his Ph.D. journey progressed, he narrowed his focused down to LGBTQ+ issues in education, and completed his dissertation on LGBTQ+ curricular and literature inclusion at the elementary school level. His research and studies have been published in book chapters and academic journals, and he has presented on the topic of LGBTQ+ curricular inclusion at a variety of national conferences. Previous to his current positions, Dr. Grasso worked as a classroom teacher for Pine Grove Elementary School, and in the Equity and Diversity Department for Broward County Public Schools. During his time with the Equity and Diversity Department for Broward Schools, he was able to develop LGBTQ+ curriculum guides, transgender policy guidelines and procedures, and worked alongside the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) to develop a nationwide model protocol for bringing adolescent sexaul health services including HIV and STI screenings to high school campuses. In addition to work, Dr. Grasso enjoys sports and currently serves as the Commissioner of the South Florida Flag Football League, an LGBTQ+ inclusive flag football league based in Fort Lauderdale. He is a proud oldest brother of two sisters, and his family currently resides in the state of New York.
