Innovation Specialist, City of San Antonio
Eddie Johnson III, a native of Minnesota, is an innovator, community advocate and trailblazer for creating valuable social, economic and cultural change. Vocationally, Eddie attains both IT business analysis and operational change management experience within the public and private sector. As a professional, Eddie works within the City of San Antonio’s Office of Innovation as an Innovation Specialist. He splits his workload conducting projects to improve customer service and increase process and program efficiencies across the City organization. In addition, he manages the CivTechSA program, whose goal is to bring academia, entrepreneurs and government together to solve civic challenges. Outside of his professional career, Eddie has served on boards to include the Ella Austin Community Center, Catholic Charities, Archdiocese of San Antonio, Inc., and continues to serve in a number of other capacities as a mentor and servant leader. This past year, Eddie became one of six founding members to form a political action committee known as the Black Equity PAC, focused on building the political infrastructure to establish equitable representation in our institutions for the black community. Eddie also holds the position of Historian and Community Engagement Chair for the Delta Rho Lambda Chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity Inc. It is there where he has led initiatives and hosted community forums to address issues like racism and voter apathy. In his spare time, Eddie loves to create and produce his own music. Educationally, Eddie obtained a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology from Illinois Wesleyan University in 2011. He also obtained a Master of Business Administration degree with a concentration in Public Administration from Strayer University in 2018. Eddie hopes to become a positive role model for not only his five-year-old son Jeremiah, but for his family, friends and community.
