Youth Facilitator, Fiesta Youth
Gideon Del Rio has participated in LGBTQIA+ activism for seven years and is an active member of the transgender community. He lends his perspective from a transmasculine, nonbinary, and 1.75-generation Mexican immigrant experience. With a background in youth education and psychology, Gideon received a bachelor’s degree in liberal arts from Grand View University in 2018. He also serves as the president of the San Antonio Gender Association, a gender diverse support group, and the youth facilitator and volunteer manager for Fiesta Youth, an after-school LGBTQ+ youth program. He oversees events such as Transgender Day of Remembrance, Transgender Day of Visibility, and a youth LGBTQ+ prom. In the past, he has worked for the Beto for Texas campaign as a Field Organizer, the DoSeum children's museum teaching infant/parent classes, and the Midwest renaissance faire circuit as a children's mermaid performer. Gideon looks forward to fostering a sense of pride and connection within the community through inclusion, advocacy, and outreach. Having moved to San Antonio in 2018, he is eager to watch the city grow to be a leader in progressivism for Texas. He is a cinema fan who married his best friend this year in quarantine. They share their home with two rescue cats.
