Haris Khan
Queens Borough Liaison, Office of the Comptroller
Haris Khan is a first-generation Pakistani immigrant raised in Uzbekistan, the Philippines, Myanmar, Turkmenistan, and Malaysia before arriving at JFK in 2015. He currently works as Queens Borough Liaison for Comptroller Scott Stringer, serving as a conduit to one of the world's most diverse places, with over 2 million residents. Before joining the City Comptroller, Haris was a NYC Urban Fellow in the Office of the Deputy Mayor for Operations, where he supported critical capital projects and managed the Department of Information Technology and Telecommunications and the Mayor’s Office of Pensions and Investments portfolios. In 2020, Haris was appointed to the Mayoral Taskforce for Safe Reopening to review agency plans to protect critical services and preserve the health of the largest city workforce in America from COVID-19. He also convened interagency working groups to streamline municipal approvals for 5G broadband infrastructure. He previously interned with NYC Public Advocate Letitia James, State Assemblyman Ron Kim, and Congresswoman Grace Meng’s At The Table! Political Action Committee. During his college years, Haris lobbied Albany and City Hall as the 33rd Chairperson of CUNY University Student Senate and Trustee on the CUNY Board of Trustees he represented over 500,000 students from 25 CUNY campuses. He successfully mobilized students to secure the NYS Dream Act's historic passage, restore millions in state budget cuts, freeze tuition at 7 community colleges, and establish the City Council Food Insecurity program. He graduated with a bachelor’s degree in politics, diplomacy, and law from CUNY Baccalaureate at City College of New York and an associate’s degree with an urban studies concentration at Queensborough Community College. Outside of work, Haris is the youngest board member of the Muslim Democratic Club of New York where he aims to increase civic participation amongst Muslim New Yorkers. In his budding professional career, Haris hopes to advocate for justice and good governance while frequenting combo-over-rice, lamb gyros, and ‘everything’ bagels from street food carts.
