Ia Vang (she/her/hers) has a deep passion for educational equity work particularly in the areas of youth development and family engagement. She hopes to put these passions into practice with her new role as a Student Management Specialist at a local public school. One of her long-term goals is to contribute to policy by advocating for BIPOC low-income communities. Ia is also a proud first-generation Hmong womxn graduate of two refugee parents. She holds a BA from Carleton College in American Studies with a concentration in Education. After graduating, she returned to her birth country, Thailand, where she had the opportunity to teach English as a Fulbright Scholar. She has since earned her Master of Arts in Education Policy and Leadership at the University of Minnesota-Twin Cities and is currently working on her Ph.D. in Educational Policy and Leadership. Ia is also a proud member of the Gates Millennium Scholars Program. Beyond working full-time, Ia enjoys cooking, blogging, karaoke, and spending time with her loved ones.
