Jason Torian is an Elementary School Teacher in Durham, North Carolina. Jason’s community engagement was sparked by the September 11, 2001 attacks on the World Trade Center and Pentagon. A recent high school graduate at the time, Jason soon joined the campaign of a local U.S. Senate candidate. He would go on to spend nearly seven years as an active volunteer with the Person County Democratic Party, eventually serving as Chair of the local party during the 2008 presidential election. Jason’s current community activism combines his passions for education and the environment. Elected to the Person County (NC) Board of Education in November of 2020, Jason also serves as a Vice-President of the Blue Ridge Environmental Defense League (BREDL) Board of Directors, and Chair of the Person County Environmental Issues Advisory Council. Jason has previously served on numerous community boards and councils primarily focused on education and environmental justice. Jason graduated from East Carolina University in 2018 with a degree in Elementary Education. He and his wife Theresa have four children. Their family lives in Roxboro, North Carolina. In his spare time, Jason enjoys cooking, gardening, and watching Duke basketball.
