Advocacy and Public Policy Liaison, Prevention Action Alliance
Jean-Philippe Dorval is an experienced public policy specialist that currently serves as the Advocacy and Public Policy Liaison for Prevention Action Alliance (PAA). In his role, he advocates for PAA’s public policy priorities revolving around substance misuse prevention and mental health within Ohio’s General Assembly. He is a registered lobbyist with the state and his duties include leading legislative strategy plans, tracking bills, organizing grassroots advocacy efforts, and testifying before General Assembly committees. He has also presented at multiple statewide conferences on how to advocate effectively. With prevention being situated at the beginning of the continuum of care, his personal policy interests revolve around fighting for policy changes that create equity and lead to improvements in Ohio’s health outcomes. Prior to joining PAA, he served as the Senior Legislative Aide to the Ohio Senate’s Assistant Minority Leader, Senator Charleta B. Tavares of the 15th District during the 132nd General Assembly. In his role as Senior Legislative Aide, he was responsible for numerous administrative and legislative duties, including but not limited to legislative research, bill tracking, bill drafting, constituent relations, and stakeholder outreach. Originally from Upstate New York, Jean-Philippe’s Haitian heritage and experiences growing up sparked an early interest in public service. This interest has guided him through all the opportunities and positions he has held thus far and continues to inspire him today. Jean-Philippe has a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science while a minor in philosophy from the University of Chicago. He has done work in the Chicago Public Schools System, the Office of Presidential Correspondence under the Obama administration, and 270 Strategies, a management consulting firm.
