Senior Correctional Probational Officer, Florida Department of Corrections
Joshua Strachan (he/him) is a Florida native, born and raised in Miami-Dade County, where he attended William H. Turner Technical Arts High School. Josh graduated college in the spring of 2007 and started his career as a Probation Officer with the Florida Department of Corrections the following year. Josh’s motivation has always been to break the chain of recidivism in his community. Always being a lover of food, it amazed Josh how his grandmother could feed a large family with so little, and followed her example during college as the “designated cook” for his friends. Years later, Josh founded Grill Daddy’s BBQ Pit - which will soon be expanding and going mobile to service the tri-county area (Broward, Dade and Palm Beach Counties). Josh hopes to use the skills and experience he has gained in his professional career as a Probation Officer and a small business owner to challenge the status quo and change the environment around him. This year, he started a nonprofit aimed at ending homelessness in the South Florida area. Launching in 2021, Grill Daddy Cares Inc. (GDC) will aim to connect the homeless with the resources they need while providing a good meal.
