Co-Founder and Executive Director, The Civic Action Project
Judith Young is an attorney and community advocate. She is passionate about increasing access, equity and representation in all branches and levels of government. To that end, Judith is committed to finding, training and supporting the next generation of policy-makers and civic leaders. Judith is the Executive Director and Co-Founder of the Civic Action Project (CAP), where she recruits and places graduate level students studying policy, urban affairs, peace studies, law, or government into paid, full-time internships with political leaders, government offices, non-profits, media and business. During their fellowships, students come together once weekly to learn from diverse groups of practitioners and civic leaders in weekly roundtables; in an attempt to learn strategy and foster partnerships across cohorts, age-groups and industries. Judith is also a volunteer Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA) for the Worcester Juvenile Court. Prior to joining CAP, Judith worked in Hartford Connecticut as a Legislative Project Manager, held legal internships with the Research and Responsible Gaming Division of the Massachusetts Gaming Commission, Massachusetts Attorney General’s Office, Gaming Enforcement Division and the Massachusetts Superior Court of Suffolk County. Judith holds a Juris Doctorate degree from Northeastern University School of Law, and bachelor’s degree in Psychology from the University of Nevada, Reno, with concentrations in substance abuse treatment, and elder psychology. Prior to law school, she worked in western Massachusetts as a case manger for pregnant and parenting young women, a writing coach and academic tutor, and - for a short, but sweet time- at a bakery in Amherst. Judith is married to her phenomenal partner, Steven. They met at the University of Nevada and realized they share a love of 90s R&B music, the outdoors, craft beers and stand up comedy. They are proud parents to three incredible children, and one very opinionated cat. She enjoys cooking, reading, and adding to her scotch-whiskey and record collections.
