Director of Advocacy Engagement, Virginia Hospital & Healthcare Association
Kathryn Gilley is the Director of Advocacy Engagement at the Virginia Hospital & Healthcare Association (VHHA), supporting member engagement with legislators on public policy issues affecting hospitals and the health care delivery system. From 2018 to 2019, Kathryn served as Communications Director for the Virginia House Democratic Caucus, where she developed and implemented communications strategy for members and candidates in an historic election year. Previously, Kathryn was Communications Director for a candidate in the 2018 Democratic primary for Maryland governor. She also spent several years at a public affairs firm in Baltimore doing media relations and grassroots advocacy at the state and local levels for clients including Marylanders to Prevent Gun Violence, No Kid Hungry, the Maryland Wholesale Medical Cannabis Trade Association, and a super PAC supporting former Governor Martin O’Malley. She holds a B.A. in International Studies from Washington College in Chestertown, Maryland. Kathryn lives in Richmond City but unplugs in Powhatan County with her horse, Gloria. She has supported Democratic candidates since the 2000 presidential election, when she endorsed Al Gore despite the fact that her fellow third-graders were adamant Bush supporters.
