Katie Merry is a Community Planner for the Air Force at Joint Base San Antonio (JBSA). She is part of the PALACE Acquire program, a training program that provides personal and professional development for recent graduates that intend to serve in a leadership position within Civilian Service. At JBSA, Katie serves the 502d Air Base Wing, community partners, and over 200 mission partners to provide support for comprehensive planning, strategic planning, and encroachment management. Katie received her B.A. in Environmental Studies from Northeastern University in Boston, MA, and her M.S. in Community and Regional Planning from the University of Texas in Austin, TX. During her graduate studies, she worked as a graduate assistant for the Center for Sustainable Development on a report commissioned by the City of Austin regarding the Austin Convention District. She also worked closely with professor Dr. Gian-Claudia Sciara on a bicycle infrastructure safety analysis of Austin, TX. Katie is currently serving as the Workshop Programming Committee co-chair for the Federal Planning Division of the American Planning Association. She is also a participant in the American Institute of Certified Planners (AICP) Candidate Pilot Program. Katie’s father served in the Air Force for 34 years, and she was fortunate enough to grow up across the US and overseas. Her favorite home base was Ramstein AFB, Germany, where she ate a lot of kasespatzle, traveled Europe, and went to all the Christmas markets. She has been in San Antonio for a little over a year and loves to explore all the great things the city has to offer. When she’s not out and about, she enjoys cooking, reading, and watching reruns of Gilmore Girls.
