Kylie McNaught
Legislative Director, Texas State Representative Jon Rosenthal
Kylie McNaught is the Legislative Director for State Representative Jon E. Rosenthal. A twice graduate of the University of Houston, Kylie earned her Master of Social Work with a focus on Macro Political Social Work in 2018. She was inspired to get involved in Texas politics when in 2013 she opened up social media to a wave of news about Senator Wendy Davis’ 11-hour filibuster in an effort to block harmful measures against reproductive healthcare. This moment changed her life, leading her to leave her corporate job that same year to take on a role as a housing case manager for young adults experiencing homelessness. During this time, she also began volunteering on political campaigns, eventually moving to work full time on the 2018 Beto for Senate race. The daughter of a professional artist and a businessman, Kylie spent most of her childhood moving, living in six states around the country. She planted roots when she moved to Houston in 2004, while not a Texas native she feels like she could not have gotten here fast enough. Having experienced living everywhere from small town Pennsylvania to West Palm Beach, Florida, Kylie likes to think that moving so often led to her adaptability and empathic nature. Outside of her work Kylie is passionate about getting social workers involved with policy and government. She is a member of the Finance Committee for the Core Values PAC, a group formed by social workers, aiming to elect social workers to down ballot offices. Kylie volunteers with the Clinic Access Support Network (CASN) a reproductive justice organization. She is an avid rock climber, she enjoys writing, spending time with her dog and cat, practicing her ukulele and working on her art.
