Makayla Parkin
Policy Director, Boston City Council President Kim Janey
Makayla Parkin currently serves as the Policy Director for Boston City Council President Kim Janey. As a young black woman, seeing the inequities Black and Latinx communities face firsthand has always driven Makayla's passion and work to uplift historically marginalized communities that are continually underserved. In 2018, Makayla got her start in the advocacy field after being elected as the Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion Chair for the Young Democrats of Massachusetts. During her first-term, Makayla oversaw and supported chapters and minority caucuses to promote progressive values and increase membership and inclusion of young people of color. Later that year, Makayla joined the Office of then City Councilor, current Council President, Kim Janey, as her Community Relations Coordinator. Since then, Makayla has held multiple positions on the team, such as being the Campaign Manager for Councilor Janey's re-election campaign in 2019 and now as her current Policy Director. By applying an equity and restorative justice lens, as the Policy Director, Makayla works on policies focusing on dismantling systemic racism and increasing access to economic development, housing, and education for all.
