Maryell eagerly empowers district leaders, administrators, instructional coaches, and teachers across the country. She is passionate about developing people and creating pathways for greater access to equity. As a first-generation college graduate, she believes in the power of education to transform lives. Maryell began her career as a bilingual second grade teacher in Houston, Texas’s Fifth Ward. After a few years in the classroom, she co-launched an after-school college access program with four fellow Teach for America alumni. As a founding program manager, Maryell co-created the infrastructure to guide 9th-12th grade students through the college application process. Her students earned over $2 million dollars in scholarship funding. Maryell went on to become an independent consultant in Houston, Texas and Los Angeles, California. Prior to joining Education Elements, Maryell worked as an instructional coach for kindergarten to 8th grade teachers across public, private, and charter school networks in Los Angeles. In this role, Maryell facilitated individualized coaching sessions and delivered professional development workshops. Maryell is a proud daughter of immigrants and believes in elevating the voices of marginalized communities. She earned her B.A. in Sociology and minor in Government from Harvard University. Maryell loves learning people’s stories, practicing yoga, and exploring literature on trauma, healing, and psychological development. She enjoys connecting with friends and spending time with her partner, Carlos, and pets (a rescue dog and 50-year-old African Grey parrot).
