Melissa Allala
Community Activist

Melissa C. Allala is a native Houstonian and holds a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science with a minor in Sociology from the University of Houston. As a student with the Civic Hobby Internship Program, she interned for State Representative Armando Walle and City of Houston Controller- Ronald Green. It was during her time at the University of Houston that she gained a deep passion for public service and social justice for underserved communities with a special interest within the LGBTQIA+ community. Melissa’s governmental career first began working for the Greater Northside Management District as the Project Coordinator and Constituent Liaison where she implemented and executed initiatives that would help with the economic development of the Greater Northside. Melissa has previously worked for Harris County as a Community Outreach Supervisor, a Program Coordinator for OCA- Greater Houston, and most recently for the Department of Commerce as a Senior Partnership Specialist. Melissa has sat on various boards such as the Houston GLBT Political Caucus, Young Invincibles, Hobby School of Public Affairs Alumni Association, and Latinas Rising. She currently sits on the City of Houston Mayor Turner’s LGBT Advisory Board.
