Miranda Zapata was born and raised in San Juan, Texas. She received her Bachelor of Fine Arts in Dance from Sam Houston State University. After receiving her BFA, Zapata then moved to Los Angeles, California where she danced professionally and taught at a Charter School for underprivileged children for three years. Zapata is a dance artist who draws on personal experiences and current issues to reflect her style. She is currently pursuing her certification in Multicultural Women's and Gender Studies and Master of Fine Arts in Dance at Texas Woman’s University. Zapata, along with Cami Holman Byrd, is the co-creator of DFW Improv Jammers, a community organization that makes dance accessible for low socio-economic areas. Miranda's work focuses on creating empathy and awareness towards humanitarian issues and social justice for minorities through her artistic voice. She plans to continue challenging and resisting the social and cultural norms that continue to oppress marginalized groups.
