Monica Duarte Martinez is an organizer for Service Employees International Union (SEIU) Local 2015. SEIU Local 2015 is California’s Long Term Care workers union representing 400,000 long term workers across the state. Monica focuses on worker representation, leader development, and member mobilization across the union. In her short time being an organizer, she has successfully closed contracts in Fresno and Inyo counties. Not only uplifting workers voices but also granting IHSS homecare workers the wages and dignity they deserve. Prior to being an organizer Monica worked in various fields such as immigration and health advocacy with California Rural Legal Assistance Foundation (CRLAF); education advocacy with Parent Institute for Quality Education (PIQE), deputy director for a congressional campaign, and former Forest Service employee. She brings an array of versatile experiences to the table. Monica was born in Michoacan, Mexico and raised in Orange Cove, California. She is the proud daughter of Mexican immigrant parents, and first-generation college graduate. She attended the University of California, Davis and received a dual Bachelor's degree in Chicana/o Studies and Sociology. She aims to continue using her experiences and journey to uplift the voices of rural communities and generate equitable resources to these communities. In her free time, she enjoys running, hiking, traveling ,shopping, and spending time with her family.
