Oscar Zertuche, is currently embarking on an entrepreneurship adventure in agriculture. His business focuses on growing specialty crops for farmers markets and restaurants. He also works with the Brownsville Wellness Coalition, a local non-profit, where he helps manage and operate urban farms and community gardens. As well as educate others in organic farming practices. His mission is to provide fresh organic local produce to his community. Simultaneously, Oscar is working on restoring the White Elephant Saloon, a historic building located on Brownsville’s Historic Market Square.
A native of Brownsville, Texas, Oscar was raised on both sides of the border, spending most of his youth in Matamoros, Tamaulipas. He is a graduate of the University of Texas at Brownsville, where he attained a Bachelor of Art in Psychology. He later on earned his Master of Science in Organization Leadership from Our Lady of the Lake University of San Antonio.
Oscar currently volunteers as the Chairman for the Brownsville Beautification Committee and Keep Brownsville Beautiful, organizations that have the mission of improving the community’s quality of life through the enhancement of within city property through landscaping and art. As well as, promoting and organizing city-wide cleanups and recycling events. Oscar also volunteers as a board director for Come Dream Come Build, one of the largest non‐profit producers of single‐family housing for homeownership in Texas. In his spare time, Oscar enjoys biking, hiking, camping, and anything that involves him being outdoors.
