Phylicia Coley is a Syracuse, New York native currently working to serve students and communities in New York’s Capital Region. Phylicia graduated from University at Albany with a dual degree, Bachelor of Arts in Biology, and a Bachelor of Arts in Women’s Studies. She then went on to earn her master’s degree in Educational Administration and Policy. While pursuing her degree, Phylicia worked as an Assistant Apartment Coordinator at the University at Albany and transitioned into the role of Assistant Director of Residence Life at The Sage Colleges. It was in this role that Phylicia learned that she wanted to work to provide a meaningful and transformative college living experience for students. Following her time at Sage, Phylicia served as the Director of Residence Life at SUNY Adirondack where she worked to provide a residential space where first generation students felt supported. At the core of her work, Phylicia strives to create a supportive environment and opportunities for students from marginalized populations. Phylicia also served as the Associate Dean for Off Campus Commons at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute before transitioning into her current role as the Director of Residence Life at the College of Saint Rose. As an experienced Student Affairs leader, Phylicia remains dedicated to actionable equity and access for students, especially those facing adversities. Phylicia is proud to share her knowledge and frameworks, her passion for education and her commitment to the students in spaces dedicated to affirming them. Phylicia is excited to continue serving the best interest of our ever-changing student populations, as she moves forward in her career. Outside of education, Phylicia is also a keyboardist and percussionist who is working to engage more with marginalized communities in the capital region. She is excited to be an NLC 2021 Fellow to further enhance her leadership skills and give back to those in need.
