Simone N. Hylton has served for over 10 years as a prosecutor. She currently serves as a Senior Assistant District Attorney with the DeKalb County District Attorney’s office under the leadership of District Attorney Sherry Boston. Simone is assigned to the specialized Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault Unit, where she prosecutes Domestic Violence and Adult Sexual Assault cases. Prior to her assignment in the Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault Unit, Simone served in the Sexual Exploitation and Crimes against Children Unit. Prior to her time at the DeKalb County District Attorney’s office, she served as a Chief Assistant District Attorney in the Fulton County District Attorney Office. Simone is passionate about prosecution as a path to Criminal Justice reform. As she has learned throughout her career, the prosecutor is one of the most powerful individuals in the criminal justice system. She is passionate about serving as a voice for victims to ensure that citizens feel safe in their community as well as ensuring that we are smart on crime and understanding that there are alternatives to prisons for members of our community that have been charged with certain offenses. Another of Simone’s passions is ensuring that law students and lawyers of color consider a career in prosecution and that there is a continued retention of prosecutors of color. African Americans make up approximately 5% of elected prosecutors across the country. To assist in this endeavor, Simone serves on the Board of the National Black Prosecutors Association. Currently, Simone is the Southeast Regional Director of National Black Prosecutors Association; is the Immediate Past President of the Greater Atlanta Black Prosecutor Association and Chair of the Criminal Law section of the Georgia Association of Black Women Attorneys. Ms. Hylton is an Adjunct Professor at Emory University School of Law where she teaches a trial techniques course. Simone serves in several other organizations to include the State Bar of Georgia’s Committee to Promote Inclusion in the Profession and on the board of the DeKalb Lawyers Association. Ms. Hylton is a proud member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc and serves her sorority through the Atlanta Suburban Alumnae Chapter. Ms. Hylton is a member of Cascade United Methodist Church in Southwest Atlanta, Georgia. Originally born and raised in Philadelphia, PA. Ms. Hylton made Georgia her home after graduating law school. Ms. Hylton received her Bachelor of Arts Degree from Howard University and her Juris Doctorate from North Carolina Central University School of Law.
