Sol Thomas

Sol Thomas graduated from the University of Houston-Downtown with a Master of Art in Spanish and recently completed a Master of Science in Criminal Justice from Liberty University. Sol is now pursuing a doctoral degree in public policy. Sol spent 12 years working as a patrol officer, sexual assault investigator, and instructor at the Houston Police Department. Currently Sol serves as the founder/president of Latinas Rising. Sol founded Latinas Rising in December of 2017 to highlight Latinx social justice issues and applify Latinx voices. The organization focuses on a variety of issues including violence against women, education, and civic engagement. Sol enjoys spending time writing poetry, spending time with her two children, and watching re-runs of unsolved mysteries with her husband Eugene. Her favorite authors are Gloria Anzaldua, Gabriel Garcia Marquez, and Simone de Beauvoir.
