Founder/Director, Brighten Our Future Early Learning Center
Sonita Buddi is from from Sioux Falls, SD and currently resides in Omaha, NE. Sonita advocates for children as a Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA) and a foster parent. Prior to moving to Omaha, she mentored and coached basketball for a nonprofit called Christian Youth Activity League (CYAL), which was started by her childhood mentor. Sonita has spent the recent years in restaurant management and bartending and has developed a love for creating craft cocktails. Sonita is the founder of Brighten Our Future Early Learning Center, a nonprofit center coming soon to North Omaha, a low-income neighborhood identified as a child care desert. The blessing of being a mother to her son, Maurice, is by far Sonita’s greatest privilege and accomplishment. She believes all children should have access to a safe and loving home which she has been fortunate enough to provide to her three nieces, Leah, Layla, and Brooklyn. Also, near and dear to her heart is the gift of “Giving Christmas” where she has sponsored or coordinated sponsorships for hundreds of families since the age of 16. After the O’Neil ICE raid in 2018, she was able to coordinate and deliver food, gifts, hygiene products, and winter clothes for 35 families Facing adversity and growing up in poverty fueled the desire to help others, while also allowing her to witness the disconnect between different social and economic classes. Sonita continues to fight tirelessly to bridge that gap and hopes that Brighten Our Future Early Learning Center is the first of many steps in the right direction.
