Organizer, Georgia Peanut Gallery, New Georgia Project
Vanessa Kelly is an Organizer for the New Georgia Project, a nonpartisan effort focused on registering and civically engaging Georgians. She leads the Georgia Peanut Gallery, where she mobilizes volunteers from across the state to monitor and report activities at local county boards of elections and publishes their notes on the Peanut Gallery blog. Pre-COVID, Vanessa served as the Marketing Manager for GES, a global live events company. As the world shut down, GES employees spent months furloughed and many, including Vanessa, were eventually laid off. Always looking for ways to give back, Vanessa signed up as a poll worker during the pandemic and through this work, connected with NGP leadership and found a new home where she was able to combine her marketing experience with her passion for serving her community. Vanessa attended the University of Alabama Birmingham where she received her BA in Graphic Design in 2010. She became a member of the Iota Phi chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated, in fall of 2006. In 2013, Vanessa attended Georgia State University where she graduated from the J. Mack Robinson College of Business with a Master of Science in Marketing. She has spent years volunteering with the Urban League of Greater Atlanta Young Professionals and Urban League Guild, where she served terms as Public Relations Chair for both, and is a member of the Junior League of Atlanta. A native of Brunswick, Georgia, Vanessa enjoys freelance photography and being a dog-mom to her pup, Harlem.
