Xavier Graves
Academic Coach and Candidate for BA in Organizational Leadership, Crossover Preparatory Academy
Xavier Graves is currently serving as an Academic Coach at Crossover Preparatory Academy (CPA) in North Tulsa. CPA is a private Christian all-boys school that seeks to educate and mold Godly young men who love North Tulsa. He loves being a part of this effort of helping young Black men grow and develop into their best selves. Xavier is originally from West Texas, where he fell in love with tex-mex, basketball, and Jesus. Since becoming a Christian believer at the age of 15, he desired to be in some form of ministry. This desire led him to seven plus years of church ministry, serving as a youth pastor, community outreach pastor, and discipleship pastor in those years. It was while serving in these pastoral roles to many different students from different families and backgrounds, that Xavier realized that many people’s spiritual well-being is influenced heavily by their physical and social needs. In order to better serve people, Xavier shifted his career focus in the direction of nonprofits by serving a year as an AmeriCorps Vista with Meals on Wheels of Tulsa. He was able to improve his skills in program analysis, team collaboration, and grant-writing. Xavier used these skills as the Operations Manager for a local Tulsa non-profit who serves children with trauma. Now he is focused on helping people who have experienced racial, interpersonal, historical, and/or systemic trauma. To better do so, Xavier is currently finishing his undergraduate program to receive a Bachelor of Arts in Organizational Leadership, with plans for post-graduate education and licensing to do therapy. Xavier believes whole-heartedly that our criminal justice issue is a race and trauma issue that must be addressed immediately. Xavier is married to his wife, Brittany Graves, of eight years. They have three amazing kids Zoe (9), Kinley (5), and Dietrich (1). Xavier loves reading in his spare time. His favorite person to read is James Baldwin, and his favorite person to read about is Malcolm X.
