Zachary Cochran
Chief of Staff, Texas House of Representatives (State Representative Diego M. Bernal)
Zachary Cochran serves as the Chief of Staff for State Representative Diego M. Bernal (Texas House District 123) where he manages constituent services and coordinates the Representative’s legislative agenda, including policy development and management, organizing stakeholder meetings, and acting as a liaison for numerous legislative caucuses. He previously served as the Representative’s Legislative Director and as a Mexican American Legislative Leadership Foundation Moreno/Rangel Fellow during the 86th Legislative Session. Zack is profoundly passionate about state governance and has served in various capacities in and around the Texas Legislature. In 2017, Zack was awarded a Senator Gregory Luna Fellowship by the Texas Senate Hispanic Research Council where he was placed in the Office of Texas Lieutenant Governor Dan Patrick to work as a Policy Analyst during the 85th Legislative Session. As an undergraduate, Zack also served as a Policy Intern in the Office of State Senator Jose Rodriguez and a Legislative Research Intern for Project Vote Smart. He is passionate about pursuing people-centric and equitable education, healthcare, and public finance policies. In addition to his public sector experience, Zack holds a Master of Public Service and Administration, with an emphasis in state and local government policy and management, and a graduate certificate in nonprofit management from the George H.W. Bush School of Government and Public Service at Texas A&M University and a Bachelor of Arts in Government from the University of Texas at Austin. In 2019, he was inducted into Pi Alpha Alpha, the global honor society for public affairs and administration, and Nu Lambda Mu, an international honor society for nonprofit management, philanthropy, and social enterprise. Zack was born in San Antonio, Texas, raised in Rockport, Texas, and now resides in San Antonio. Outside of work, Zack likes to spend time with his family, listening to and making music, cooking and baking, and spending time outdoors.
